Human Nature by Olaniyi Olawunmi

Oh!  What a mystery,
You who an all powerful God created,
You whom the devil had to stoop low to tempt.
Oh! What a beautiful creature.
Gathering Knowledge like an harvester,
Seeking power like a volcano for escape,
Starting Wars,
Like a stubborn moth to a spider web.
Oh!  How amazing you are,
Human.
A creation yet creating,
You hath exalted above all animals.
But you are greedy,
You are wicked,
You are haughty,
You are lustful,
You are flamboyant,
You are proud.
Oh!  See to Sodom for their tales,
Ask Babel for history lessons,
Would you not learn?
I ask,
Would you just not learn?
Would you not give glory to thou creator,
Instead of finding stones to replace?
If thou creator were images,
Bricks,
Stones,
Would you not also be a stone?
Humans!
Your nature,
Deceitful as it is,
You seek to explain the divine,
In your quest to feel power,
Or is it a curse circling your heads?
Oh!  Human nature.
